Σε μια χρονιά που υπήρξαν πολύ λίγα μεγάλα φαβορί πριν φτάσουμε στο τελευταίο δίμηνο της, η κινηματογραφική βιομηχανία του Χόλιγουντ προετοιμάζεται για τη μεγάλη απονομή των Όσκαρ, με τις υποψηφιότητες που ανακοινώθηκαν να αναδεικνύουν το Everything Everywhere All At Once ως την ταινία με τις περισσότερες υποψηφιότητες.

Με τον Jimmy Kimmel να επιστρέφει μετά από 5 χρόνια και τις back to back παρουσιάσεις, στην παρουσίαση της απονομής, οι υποψηφιότητες των Όσκαρ 2023 δίνουν το έναυσμα για τις προετοιμασίες για την μεγάλη βραδιά της 13ης Μαρτίου.

All Quiet on the Western Front,  The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of the Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Tar και Triangle of Sadness είναι μια 9άδα ταινιών που πήραν σημαντικό μερίδιο στις υποψηφιότητες μετά το All Quiet on the Western Front που δεν είχε υποψηφιότητα, μόνο εκεί όπου δεν ήταν δυνατό να έχει.

Πιο πίσω, αλλά με συμμετοχή στις μεγάλες κατηγορίες, το The Whale του Aronofsky, που δεν θα έχει ευκαιρία διεκδίκησης ούτε στη σκηνοθεσία ούτε στο Όσκαρ Καλύτερης Ταινίας, ενώ το The Babylon δεν πήρε υποψηφιότητα σε καμία από τις μεγάλες κατηγορίες. Στα ενδιαφέροντα και η υποψηφιότητα της Ana de Armas για το Blonde του Netflix, η οποία είναι υποψήφια και για Χρυσό Βατόμουρο.

Καθώς η κουβέντα στο Χόλιγουντ μετά τις υποψηφιότητες παίρνει πάντοτε πολιτικές διαστάσεις, τα δύο στοιχεία που ξεχωρίζουν είναι η απουσία γυναίκας σκηνοθέτιδας από το Όσκαρ Καλύτερης Σκηνοθεσίας, το οποίο όμως είναι μάλλον δίκαιο, και φυσικά η κυριαρχία δύο ταινιών, μιας που η μία (Everything Everywhere All At Once) έχει φτιαχτεί από έναν Αμερικάνο με ασιατικές ρίζες κι έναν με ευρωπαϊκές, με πρωταγωνιστές Ασιάτες κατά κύριο λόγο, και η άλλη (All Quiet on the Western Front) είναι γερμανικής παραγωγής και σε ένα είδος, το war epic, που οι Αμερικάνοι πάντα περηφανεύονταν πως είναι επαΐοντες.
